1. 1. Our day at Cuddington was blessed with magnificent weather which we would have been happy with at our Charity Day in June. Those present enjoyed the course, the only downside being the fact that the greens had recently been hollow tined, leading to trickier putts than normal though during the morning there was a distinct improvement in their condition.
2. Robin Sewell took all this in his stride as he amassed a score of 41 points to win the event by 4 points. Now if you’re going to have a round like that, it’s probably best not to leave the Handicap Secretary immediately in your wake as he’s bound to notice so the result is that Ian has reduced Robin’s handicap by 2 shots. This is Robin’s 5th day event victory and moves him nicely up the Order of Merit rankings. Well done on a great score, Robin and we’re sure the trappings of victory more than made up for the annoyance of three putting from 12 inches on one hole which our new VC was indelicate enough to mention in his Disaster Trophy outline!
3. Our March event of course features the new Captain’s drive in and Ian overcame two interruptions to his swing from the afore mentioned Vice which sought to adjust his wardrobe to something more in keeping with his reputation for glamorous attire - see the impressive results on the web site which are totally appropriate for this Jubilee year. In the end his shot was probably the longest Captain’s drive we’ve ever seen which speaks volumes for his concentration.
4. Ian’s Captain’s Challenge was to have the straightest drive (ie closest to a rope down the centre of the fairway) on the 1st hole and for quite a while his own led the way, despite a valiant effort from the other Ian which, as Jon was ungracious enough to point out, was achieved in his drive from the 18th! This raised the impressive total of £75 for the Charity which when added on to the special Nearest the Pin Competition, meant that the Marsden gained £225 from the day. Thank you all for your help and support.
5. The post dinner presentation and general banter was hilarious and confirms the expectation that the Ian and Jon shows will be one of many highlights of their year together. As for the tour…… So if you’re not yet down for the Puttenham event, make sure you take up one of the remaining places to play at this very attractive course followed by a highly entertaining cabaret!
6. The Charity Committee met last night and amongst many other plans for the big day decided on the courses which would be offered in the so called Charity fourballs. These have now been issued in an e mail and have met with the usual enthusiastic response as £25pp is a great price for a summer round at these attractive courses. If you want one of them, do act fast as the list is nearly full ready for the draw at Puttenham. Our grateful thanks to Chris Romain who has worked very hard to make these offers possible.
7. We are producing another run of the original BAGS ties (the striped ones) and it is hope these will be available by our Puttenham day. The cost is £15 and if you wish to reserve one either because you are a new member or just fancy an upgrade on your old one, please e mail me. You should also have received notification that BAGS embroidered clothing can now be ordered again. The catalogue of what’s available can be accessed from www.logos2polos.com
8. The draw for the forthcoming KOs was made at Cuddington and is now on the web site. There should be some really exciting matches in prospect and as usual you are asked to fix these up as soon as possible to take account of people’s holiday and business commitments. If you already know your 1st round opponents, there’s no reason to wait for the Preliminary Rounds to be played. As usual any queries or results to John or Roger, the organisers.
9. You’ll shortly get a request to pay the Charity Event
balance, the reason being that with so many players, we have a
huge amount to collect. We’re also asking players to confirm
their buggy requirements as there are only 16 available. Team
Captains of non BAGS teams will also be asked to list their
players and handicaps. Please help on this big project.
Have a good Easter, especially if the warm weather continues.
