  1. All went well at Sand Martins and we had a good day, at least until the hot water ran out in the showers! The weather was favourable without being too hot for golf and quite a few of our players felt able to wear shorts. The course was in excellent condition with the greens especially slick and the general feeling was the Club was a hidden gem with two interesting and quite distinctive halves.
  2. Steve Bond seems to like the courses west of London as he knocked up a Stableford score of 39 to achieve his fourth BAGS win since he joined us. The other victories have come at Puttenham, Merrist Wood and just last year at The Berkshire. When Steve wins, he wins big and he finished four points ahead of Jon who made the podium for the first time since the summer of 2016 and Gary who has continued his good form of the last few months. Well done to you all and apart from getting his hands on the Winteridge Trophy, Steve has been rewarded with a handicap reduction of two shots so his next outing at Chart Hills in July will see him off 25.
  3. Dan Shaw has pulled himself up to joint leader with Glenn at 103 in the Chairman’s but Luke is only one point behind and with the top twelve in the race all playing at Betchworth next month we can expect some movement in these rankings. Likewise in the Memorial which Dan also leads from Jon, the top ten are in the Charity event so watch this space as to who leads half way through our season.
  4. The KOs are in full swing and thanks to those who have already played their matches within the end May deadlines. The next date to watch is the end of June when all Round 1 matches should have been completed so make those calls and play if necessary in the late afternoon to take advantage of the extra daylight and cooler conditions.
  5. So we now approach the Charity event on June 14 and all teams are present and correct. The OOP has already been distributed but because there was a computer glitch caused by the intrusion of previous years’ line ups, I will be reissuing this within the next 24 hours. The layout problem was and is not apparent on my PC but is readily seen on an I Pad or I Phone when downloaded. My apologies for this and contrary to appearances only four people are off the tee at any one time!
  6. The event programmes are also well in hand and should be despatched to all participating BAGS individuals and Captains of guest teams by the end of this week. Do take a look especially at the Auction page as we have some enticing lots with a great fourball voucher offer at Woking as well as previous years’ stars at Sunningdale, New Zealand, The Wisley and The Berkshire. We also have a week on offer at a magnificent house in the New Forest – courtesy of Captain Chris’ wife and sister in law - and two golf breaks to last year’s tour venue (Kent) and next year’s in the West Midlands to play two of the best courses in that area. Your team will also have a chance to win a day ticket at the superb Royal Ashdown Forest for a mere £20.
  7. Hedley has been very busy getting in attractive fourballs and these will also be available to all players. If you are not joining us on the day, you can still join in the bidding and help The Marsden. Simply contact me or him with your bid(s). There will lots happening on the 14 th and we are hoping for a good Charity total at the end with lots of great competition on the way. Thanks as always to those who have been generous in their time and donations so far.
  8. If like myself you have been inundated with Data Protection e mails over the last few weeks, you may be pleased that we have not yet contacted you. Keep an eye open for something from us in early June as the issue is being finalised at the next BAGS Committee meeting on Monday week.
  9. Apologies to those who have ordered BAGS clothing as I have been waiting for more orders before doing a bulk run. That term is a slight exaggeration as only a handful of people have so far contacted me which is very disappointing given that here is a chance to wear good quality golf clothing with a unique logo. I am hoping that production will be completed within the next two weeks, in time for Charity Day.
  10. In other developments you may be interested to know that we have now mapped out our programme for 2020 and have even paid a deposit to one Club. All contacted so far have agreed to hold current prices which means that we shall be able to continue to offer members and guests great value on excellent courses.
  11. Another Bank Holiday with good weather? What is happening to the time honoured UK tradition of rain and cold temperatures over our holiday weekends?! Have fun in the sun…….
