1. In one of the rainiest Februarys I can remember and with two named storms in the preceding two weekends, we were lucky that Blackmoor drains so well and that though there was rain on the day, it was never prolonged or heavy. The course has a great layout with many memorable holes which proved a real match for us all.

2. Whenever the winning score is below 36 you know the course (and fair to say also the conditions) have been challenging. In the end we had a first victory on Countback with 35 pts for Clive who just edged out Luke. Sadly Clive was not able to get his moment of glory on the night as he was otherwise engaged cheering his team on (unsuccessfully as it turned out) against Leipzig in the Champions League. Just behind these on 34 was Richard Hockham who, unlike the other two in front of him, had qualified for the Captain’s Bowl so another trophy was added to the Hockham haul. Well done to all those in the leading group and good to see new member Dougie Paull having an excellent first round.

3. We now move on to Liphook on March 12 – money now due please - and with 72 players registered this event is now full. That is not surprising as it is in the top 100 in the British Isles and 32nd in England. As a classic heathland course we will have high expectations and I am sure we will not be disappointed. The event of course does feature Mike Grieshaber’s drive in and will also include his Captain’s Challenge, details of which will be sent out soon. As always the proceeds from this will go to our Charity fund so please do all take part to help kick start our efforts.

4. While on this subject you are also reminded that on the evening of March 28 there will be a Rock Choir Concert at Manor House School in Little Bookham to raise funds for The Marsden. Tickets are £10 each (under 12s only a fiver) through Hedley who is a member of this excellent group of singers - over 100 at the last count – and if you can’t come do consider giving a donation. We are hoping to raise in the region of £2000 from this event which will feature music to suit all tastes and is well worth attending if you can.

5. At our AGM we had reports from our various Officers and it was good to hear that our Society continues to have solid financial foundations. I also ran through our programme for 2021 (when Andy Skilton will be Captain) which will soon be confirmed both on the web site and by e mail. There was particular interest in our plans for a Lincolnshire tour based in Woodhall Spa in September next year, especially as it will include a Golf Clinic on one of the mornings. The facilities there are superb as you would expect at the Headquarters of the English Golf Union.

6. Be reminded that your subscription to BAGS includes group insurance with several valuable benefits not the least of which is £100 contribution towards the bar tab if you are lucky enough to get a hole in one. More likely is that you may lose your clubs and these are also covered! If you want more details, just e mail John Davies.

7. The three Knock Out Competitions invitations will be published in the next couple of weeks. I think our new members are all paired up with suitable partners and we look forward to a high level of entry which makes possible keen competition and good socialising.

8. At the AGM retiring Captain Alan announced a new trophy which will be based on the best round – not necessarily a winning one - of the previous season and will be presented by him at Liphook.

9. Looking at the forecast for the week or so it is disappointing still to see some more rain on the way. If you have booked a buggy for our March event do keep checking the Liphook web site to see whether they are allowed.

One day extra to endure in this wettest of Februarys but at least the days are lengthening…….!
